The Opportunity - Database Developer

As our Database Developer (MySQL), you’ll be responsible for managing, optimizing, and evolving our database architecture to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability. You will take ownership of our MySQL environments hosted on AWS RDS, contribute to analytics and reporting pipelines, and play a key role in data-driven decision-making.

You’ll join a cross-functional, fast-paced SaaS team that values innovation and encourages the use of AI-assisted tools to monitor, maintain, and enhance data workflows, reporting, and security.

Your Mission

• Manage and maintain all MySQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and uptime.

• Design and implement efficient stored procedures and queries to support internal reporting and analytics needs.

• Develop dashboards and reports using Python APIs and MySQL stored procedures.

• Generate and deliver data insights required by internal teams across departments.

• Monitor, maintain, and optimize database performance — proactively identify and eliminate bottlenecks.

• Implement and enforce data security policies, including credential management, encryption, and GDPR compliance.

• Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of database architecture, schemas, and procedures.

• Propose, plan, and execute improvements to database design and architecture — including upgrades and scalability enhancements.

• Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) drills and collaborate with cross-functional teams on system resilience.

• Provide production support for database-related issues as part of the wider engineering team.

• Leverage AI tools to assist in monitoring, maintenance, and data analysis/reporting.
  
  

Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of database architecture, normalization, and indexing strategies.

• Advanced proficiency in Excel formulas and macros for data analysis and reporting.

• Strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

• Critical and out-of-the-box thinking for solving complex database challenges.

• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities efficiently.
  
  

Must Have

• 3+ years of full-time experience working with MySQL databases (design, optimization, management).

• Proven experience managing databases on AWS RDS.

• Expertise in designing performance-driven database architectures.

• Hands-on experience with Python for developing reports and data pipelines.

• Familiarity or experience with AI tools for database monitoring, performance optimization, or automated reporting.

• Exposure to SaaS, FinTech, or POS systems.
